Jamie was a batsman who played over 130 First XI games for Hawthorn East Melbourne, Richmond and St Kilda in Cricket Victoria's District Competition.  In 1984 he was a member of the Victorian Under 19 side that played in the national championships in Hobar, after which he was chosen in the Australian Under 19 side that toured India and Sri Lanka in February 1985; playing in a single Youth Test and three Youth One Day Internationals during that time.  After moving to Tasmania from Melbourne in 2004 he played in the then Huon Association before deciding to try his hand at umpiring, standing in a number of games in the Huon before joining the TCUSA in October 2006.
